The story of Lalitha Jewellery Mart began in the year 1940, when our beloved grandfather, Shanmugavelayutham, laid the foundation of our family’s jewellery legacy in Colombo, Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon). It all started at 105 Sea Street, Colombo – 11, where he began the business with immense courage and dedication.

What makes this beginning truly heartfelt is that our grandfather started the business by selling our grandmother’s cherished jewellery. With this sacrifice and a vision for a brighter future, he built Lalitha Jewellery Mart into a trusted name in Colombo.

Later, he moved to Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, with dreams of expanding the business in Thetkuavana Veethi. Sadly, before he could fulfil this vision, he passed away in the 1960s, leaving behind a legacy of passion, integrity, and hard work.

Before leaving Colombo, he entrusted the jewellery business to his two sons, Kandaswamy Shanmugavelayutham and Meenatchinathan Shanmugavelayutham, ensuring that the values he stood for would be carried forward. At that time, the family remained in Sri Lanka, continuing to live and thrive there.

Through generations, the flame that our grandfather lit continues to shine, guiding us with the same spirit of trust, commitment, and excellence.
